The Namibian operation is engaged in transporting guests to the principal tourist destinations in Namibia. Namibia is a large country and its key destinations are far apart, making air charter an obvious solution for travel.
The main destinations that Wilderness Air services in Namibia are: Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland, the Skeleton Coast, Etosha and the Kunene River. Some of these destinations represent the finest wilderness areas Namibia has to offer. The base for operations is in Windhoek. From here all reservations are captured and aircraft scheduled.
The sector lengths in Namibia are on average 300 kilometres long. Less freight is carried in Namibia; in fact the only area regularly serviced with weekly freight flights is the Skeleton Coast. Longer sectors mean longer flights. The net effect is that Wilderness Air Namibia flies many operational hours, and carries fewer passengers than Botswana, but these passengers all fly further than the equivalent passenger in Botswana.
For these reasons Cessna 210s are favoured over the C206 in Namibia. The 210 has the same seating capacity and same engine as the 206; it flies faster but does not have the same freight capability as the C206.
The trade-off of freight capacity for speed makes the 210 an ideal 5-passenger seat aircraft in Namibia. Wilderness Air Namibia therefore operates a mix of 6 C210s, 4 Cessna Caravans, one C206 and one C310.
Fewer flights translate into lower logistical overhead. For this reason Wilderness Air Namibia runs with a smaller staff compliment than that of Wilderness Air Botswana.
Wilderness Air Namibia, offers a daily flight schedule for passengers, moving in a clockwise direction from Windhoek all the way through to Etosha; this affords clients a cost-effective option to travel to the main tourist destinations in Namibia.
